150 Years of Wanatah Celebrated with Three Days of Festivities

150WToday is the second day of the weekend long Wanatah Sesquicentennial celebration. The “Times Remembered” historical demonstration tent as well as the kids rides will start up at 10 am in the Wanatah School. Come out for the parade at 11 am that will be immediately followed by a Classic Car Cruise-In located in the parking lot of Lions Club Park.

From 12:30 until 1:15pm you can attend a meet and greet with an Abe Lincoln impersonator and with a $5 pre-purchased ticket you can have tea with him at 2pm. Historical tours beginning at the Wanatah School will be running from 1 until 5pm. The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Drum and Dance Troupe will be performing at Lions Club Park at 3:30 pm.

At the Wanatah School From 4:30 until 7:30 an Old-Fashioned Beef ‘n’ Noodles dinner sponsored by the Salem United Church of Christ is scheduled. The $8 dinner will include beef and noodles, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, coleslaw, dessert and a drink. A bowl of just beef and noodles is can be purchased for $4.

Saturday evening entertainment at Lions Club Park includes Jeff “Sinatra” Robinson at 5 pm, the magic of Mark Alan at 6:30 pm and an Elvis Presley tribute band called Alvie and the Sweet Sensations at 8 pm. To finish off the Saturday festivities, a fireworks display will begin at dusk at the Wanatah School.

However the fun doesn’t end there, Sunday still holds a plethora of activities to attend, beginning with a Pancake and Sausage brunch at the Wanatah School from 8 am until 12:30 pm. Historic barn tours at the Shurte Family Farm located at 12272 S. 700 W in Wanatah will run from 9:30 am until 1:30 pm. At 10:30 am community church service is scheduled at Lions Club Park.

The remainder of events will take place at Lions Club Park which include spirit singers and a fire-fighter tug-of-war at 11 am, an appearance from Miss La Porte County 2014 Fair Queen at noon followed by a performance from The Jug Band. The last activity on the Sesquicentennial Brochure is a kids tug-of-war sponsored by Wanatah Little League scheduled for 1 pm.
