The first “inmates” to be locked up at the new Starke County Jail successfully bonded out for a good cause. Last week the sheriff’s office partnered with Starke County Relay for Life to raise money. Volunteers either “surrendered” to a jail staff member or had an “arrest warrant” issued.
They were then placed in a cell at the recently completed detention center until they either paid their way out themselves or contacted enough friends to go their bail. The event raised $3,882.13 for cancer research. Starke County’s Relay for Life event will take place Friday, June 12 at the Starke County Fairgrounds in Hamlet.
