Residents are encouraged to walk, bike or run. Record steps taken in the next two weeks to reach a goal of 250 miles by the end of May. Since the series follows a NASCAR theme, the first “race” to 250 miles is the Daytona 250 and ends May 23. A new goal will be announced following this “race”.

Sign up for the competition at www.surverymonkey.com/r/HCSregistration. Report miles at www.surverymonkey.com/r/HCSTracker. Registration sheets are also available at all four libraries in Starke County. Teams up of to five are welcome to participate as well as any individuals wanting to be a part of the challenge. NASCAR prizes will be awarded to the team and individual winners of the Healthy Series Challenge at the end of August.

Starke County is ranked as one of the unhealthiest counties in the state, and this summer challenge is just one of the many programs offered by the Moving Starke County Forward organization to change that statistic. A Robert Wood Johnson Foundation statewide poll found adult smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, and excessive drinking are some health behaviors issues found to be serious factors.
