Senator Donnelly Visits Knox Business; Expands Little on Iran Nuclear Talks

DonnellyPlasticThe latest photo opportunity for U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly happened to be in Knox on Tuesday.

The Senator was touring multiple businesses in the Northern Indiana region as part of a “Donnelly Day.” The Democrat uses the visits to learn more about what’s important to workers in Indiana by performing tasks alongside various employees.

Donnelly says he believes small businesses are the heart and soul of the American economy.

“I want our business community to know how supportive I am of them, to know that I’ll be there every step of the way and small businesses like this create our jobs, create our opportunities so I just wanted to show support,” says Donnelly.

Hoosier Custom Plastics – which hosted Donnelly – took the Senator between different work stations in the factory to provide the full manufacturing experience.

The company helps build products for golfers, drinking and social activities, as well as tourniquets used in military combat situations. The tourniquets have been used to save lives.

“One percent go over and serve, and protect all of us,” says Donnelly. “Anything we can do to help them, we will do, and what’s done here is pretty inspiring.”

While discussing their products with the Senator, attention was given to a plastic product used in cancer and chemotherapy treatments. The product could poise Hoosier Custom Plastics for considerable growth.

Senator Donnelly took the opportunity during his visit to comment on U.S. negotiations with Iran over its Nuclear Program. Both countries recently wrapped up arduous discussions on the subject, but legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate would allow Congress to review the accord before providing approval – something opposed by the White House.

Donnelly kept it simple when arguing his support for Congressional involvement.

“We’re the elected representatives of the people of the United States,” Donnelly said. “The people of Indiana want their voice heard on this and that’s my job.”

Donnelly has been included in a list of names that has shown support for the legislation.
