The Pulaski County Commissioners will be interviewing candidates for the top position at the county highway department.

The commissioners approved action to interview internally for the position of superintendent, however, a letter of resignation from acting Superintendent Mark Fox has not been filed with the county. They anticipate that letter to be filed this week. If the commissioners feel that a person currently working for the county does not fit what they’re looking for in a candidate, they will advertise externally for the position.

Commissioner Bud Krohn, Jr. suggested hiring two people as co-superintendents and was ready to form a motion to that effect. It was noted that if the commissioners were to move forward with a co-superintendent position the issue would need to be taken to the Pulaski County Council for a salary ordinance amendment and the addition of a budget line item. The commissioners unanimously agreed that interviewing candidates was a more credible option.

If the letter is received this week, the commissioners will discuss the process with the council members when they meet in a joint session on Monday, April 13.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, resident Tina Knebel complained about an ethics issue with the highway department. County Attorney Kevin Tankersley noted that the reported issue of using highway department equipment on property not owned by the county was discussed in executive session.
