The Pulaski County Commissioners received word this week that the Pleasant View Rest Home is now officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Commission President Larry Brady read the letter from the Department of Natural Resources that stated the county home located at 700 W. County Road 60 S.  in Winamac was entered into the register on March 17.

The official state and national register certificates will be issued to the county during a special ceremony during the Indiana State Fair in August. A specific date and time were not announced.

Operations at the Pleasant View Rest Home were recently closed as the Pulaski County Council voted by a majority in December of 2014 to not include funding for operations in the 2015 budget. Since the council voted in that manner, the commissioners had no choice but to close the facility. The closure was approved by a 2-1 vote.

Inventory of the items left within the facility is being taken. The commissioners and council members will jointly decide what to do with the 130-year-old structure in a future setting.
