A Knox man faces several new felony charges following a Wednesday manhunt in the Bass Lake area. It started around 12:20 p.m. when the Starke County 911 center got a call from the Bass Lake Pub. The caller told the dispatcher a woman showed up there in handcuffs and shackles saying she had been held hostage and “water boarded.” The victim told deputies she lived across the street and had fled her home on foot.

Deputies from the Starke and Pulaski County Sheriff’s Offices, Indiana State Police and DNR all searched the area for the suspect. Starke County Sheriff’s Department K9 Terror tracked Benny Giselbach, 37. He was arrested without incident in a small pond. Giselbach is charged with domestic battery, criminal confinement, intimidation with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief.

Giselbach was arrested in late February in Starke County after sheriff’s deputies responded to an open-line 911 call from his wife. Giselbach threatened to harm her, himself and officers, according to a sheriff’s department news release and was charged with criminal recklessness. That case is still pending.
