Stuck Accelerator Incurs Damage To Multiple Knox Homes

Knox Police were called to the scene of an accident on Wednesday after a vehicle saw the accelerator stuck.

According to officers, 52-year-old Roy McCarty was traveling northbound of S. East Street when he allegedly lost control.

The vehicle hit a porch on one of the houses in the 800 block of East Street and continued before hitting the southeast corner of another home. Police say that home saw damage to the roof as a result of the accident.

McCarty’s vehicle didn’t stop there, according to police. He managed to get the vehicle back on the roadway and traveled to the 700 block of South East Street. There he allegedly hit a tree and flipped the vehicle, ending the ordeal.

Police say McCarty was unable to exit the vehicle, leading responders to break the back window to provide an exit.

Officers believe alcohol may have been a factor. McCarty was booked at the Starke County Jail on charges of being a Habitual Traffic Violator and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated.
