The Town of Culver’s Plan Commission is considering a proposal to expand its city limits.

Preliminary discussions are scheduled for Tuesday’s Plan Commission meeting that would involve extending Culver’s town limits to the intersection of state road 10 and state road 17. That area currently lies northwest of Culver.

Plan Commission President Barry McManaway says its part of the Town’s comprehensive plan to potentially expand.

“Just see if it would be an asset to Culver for use of property and things like that,” says McManaway.

Bills have previously gone before the Indiana General Assembly that may increase the difficulty for annexation. The Town of Culver intends to explore the possibility of expanding their limits prior to any legislative moves that could make for future hardships.

McManaway says there are also economic reasons behind the move.

“Possibilities toward affordable housing, even attract, in the future, being able to attract anything as far as some industry or even some jobs or anything else,” says McManaway.

Should the Town decide to move forward in the next month or so, an assessment of the land to explore feasibility is expected to take about three months to complete.

The Plan Commission will meet to discuss annexation on Tuesday evening.
