A Knox man is in the Starke County Jail after allegedly threatening harm to himself, his wife, and law enforcement.
The 911 Dispatch Center received an open 911 call from a woman Wednesday afternoon stating that her husband had a loaded weapon and made threats toward her and himself. He also threatened to harm law enforcement officers if they arrived at the home.
Dispatchers were able to use GPS from the 911 call to determine the caller’s location according to a press release. At one point, the call was disconnected, but the dispatchers utilized the TEXT 911 service to gather more information to relay to responding Starke County Sheriff’s Department officers.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw Benny Giselbach, 37, attempting to flee the property in an SUV. The officers ordered him out of the vehicle at gunpoint. Giselbach exited the vehicle and threw a handgun on the ground. He was taken into custody without incident.
Giselbach was searched, and officers found a knife, loose ammunition and an extra ammunition magazine in his possession, according to police. The gun the officers retrieved off of the ground was fully loaded, and a live round was in the chamber.
A search of his vehicle reportedly found a loaded revolver on the floorboard and two boxes of ammunition.
Giselbach was booked into the Starke County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of a firearm by a serious/violent felon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness while armed with a deadly weapon, carrying a handgun without a permit and domestic battery. He being held with no bond.
