Pair of Defendants Sentenced in Starke Circuit Court

A South Bend man with a lengthy criminal history can add another sentence to his record. Tony Glover Jr., 29, pleaded guilty to a felony and a misdemeanor theft charge during an appearance in Starke Circuit Court yesterday. Both offenses occurred in September, according to court records. Glover admitted stealing electronics and knives from his mother and stepfather on Sept. 17 with intent to pawn them. Earlier that day he also stole power tools, clothing and other items valued at $886 from two Knox men.

Glover was sentenced to 12 months in the Starke County Jail on the misdemeanor charge and 24 months in prison for the felony. However, that sentenced can be served in the Starke County Jail if the sheriff agrees. No restitution was ordered, as most of the items were recovered. Glover has been in jail since his arrest in September and will receive credit for time served. Glover’s prior record includes seven felony and 22 misdemeanor convictions. He told Starke Circuit Judge Kim Hall he wants to serve his time and get into a drug treatment program.

Judge Hall also sentenced a North Judson woman with an equally lengthy record to a maximum three-year sentence for possession of methamphetamine. That charge against Heather Manns, 36, stems from an April arrest. Judge Hall agreed to allow Manns to serve her state sentence on home detention with electronic monitoring through Starke County Community Corrections so she can care for her teenage children and get help for her substance abuse problems. He also made it clear she will receive a maximum sentence for any future felony offenses she commits in Starke County if he is the judge in her case.
