The Starke County Council has authorized the purchase of a blanket bond to cover the various elected officials. It’s less expensive than purchasing individual bonds for the auditor, recorder, surveyor, sheriff, coroner, assessor and clerk. The county pays about $1,000 per year for the policy from its insurance carrier.
Formal action by the council was needed to satisfy a State Board of Accounts requirement. Each officeholder must have a minimum $15,000 bond each year. The treasurer will still need to secure an additional bond outside the county’s blanket policy.
