Garling had made the request in an earlier meeting as she had gotten some feedback from fellow department heads asking to close the office early to accommodate plans for Christmas. The commissioners approved the request with the understanding that the workers who leave early use remaining PTO time or forego those hours.
The auditor asked to rescind the request which was denied by Commissioners Terry Young and Tracey Shorter. Commission President Larry Brady was not in attendance. Shorter said that the employees may have already made plans and felt it was too late to change it now. Garling said only two or three offices would be closing before the end of the regular business day on Christmas Eve but didn’t elaborate on which offices.
Pulaski County residents are encouraged to phone ahead before conducting business with the county on Dec. 24.
