WKVI Staff Collecting Donations for Local Food Pantries

If you’re out grocery shopping today, stop and see members of the WKVI staff. The station’s fifth annual food drive will take place from 10 a.m. until noon Central today at Five Star in the Knox Mall and Sanders in the Winamac Plaza. Shoppers can donate non-perishable food or cash to help local families in need.

Items collected at Five Star will go to the Community Services of Starke County food pantry. During last year’s event, shoppers donated 166 pounds of food and $270 in cash in addition to a $500 cash contribution from Five Star. Community Services of Starke County Executive Director Joan Haugh says they were able to feed about 100 families as a result.

This is the second year Sanders has taken part in the WKVI Food Drive. Food and money dropped off there will go to Pulaski County Human Services. During last year’s event, 800 pounds of food and $129 in donations were received.

WKVI would like to set new records in both locations, so please stop and see us and give generously. Tony Ross and Tom Berg will be at Five Star, and Nathan Welter, Mitch Columbe and Mary Perren will be at Sanders.
