Oregon-Davis Adopts Balanced Calendar Concept

Oregon-Davis-Jr_Sr-BuildingThe Oregon-Davis School Corporation is the first in the area to adopt the balanced calendar concept. The school board voted 5-to-1 in favor of the plan, with board member Lee Nagai casting the lone no vote.

Superintendent Greg Briles says while there is no firm calender in place for the 2015-2016 school year, they have a general idea of how the plan will work out. O-D will follow the lead of the other schools in North Central Vocational Cooperative schools. Once they have a firm schedule, Briles says O-D will be able to make minior changes so the calendar can work for the corporation.

A balanced calendar still features 180 instructional days. School starts the first of August and ends the first of June. Students get longer fall and spring breaks which can be used for remediation or enrichment activities.

The Knox Community School Board did not take action on a balanced calendar during their meeting last night. The North Judson-San Pierre School Board may consider it tonight, and the Culver board is waiting to see what other corporations do before acting.
