The Knox Pop Warner Junior Redskin cheerleaders competed this past weekend after making it to regionals in DeKalb, Ill. Two squads were put together for traveling and non-traveling opportunities. The Knox Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee non traveling squad received first place in their division at regionals. Head coach Melissa Fairchild and assistant coach Amber Rinard lead 16 girls in 3rd and 4th grades to their first competition.

The Knox Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee traveling squad is coached by Amber Strong and Janelle Cripe. They also received first place at regionals in their division. That squad consists of 14 girls in the 5th grade. They will move on to Nationals at Disney World in December.

Pop Warner Cheer Director Melissa Fairchild says this was their third time competing at Regionals.

“This is the first time they got first place at regionals and get to move onto Disney. It was there last chance to because they are in 5th grade so they won’t be in Pop Warner anymore,” said Fairchild.

Fairchild added the girls have been practicing since the beginning of August. She said the girls hard work really showed this past weekend after both teams came home with 1st place trophies.
