Several LaPorte County Residents Arrested in Heroin Distribution Conspiracy

A lengthy federal investigation into the distribution of heroin from Chicago into northwest Indiana resulted in the arrest of six LaPorte County residents.

Jordan Gutkowski, 28, Brandon Heuer, 28, Nathan Mougros, 26, Derrick Penwell, 31, and Brittany Lemond, 26, all of Michigan City, and James Jones, 26, of Westville, all face federal drug charges. So do two men from Chicago and one from Richton Park, Ill. who is alleged to be the primary source for much of the heroin. Authorities say the heroin distribution ring operated from 2009 until recently and resulted in large quantities of the drug being used and sold in LaPorte and Porter Counties. The U.S. Attorney’s office is asking that all nine defendants be jailed without bond. They’re due in court for initial hearings later this week.
