Public Hearing This Week for LaPorte County Road Construction

A public hearing is scheduled for this week to gather input on the proposed U.S. 20 pavement project from a 0.2 mile east of U.S. 421 to a 0.3 mile west of the U.S. 35/State Road 212 interchange in Coolspring and Michigan Township in LaPorte County.

The pavement conditions will be improved in that section of road with the addition of a center turn lane with concrete curb and gutter between Woodland Avenue and Johnson Road. An auxiliary turn lane for westbound traffic will be constructed adjacent to the Evergreen Park Business Center.

The 3.9 mile scope of the project would require approximately five acres of new permanent right-of-way.

The project will be completed in three phases within the limits of Woodland Avenue and Johnson Road. Two lanes of traffic will be open, one in each direction, with auxiliary left turn lanes provided at certain public road approaches and drives. Local traffic will have access to homes and businesses.

The environmental document and preliminary design plans plus other paperwork in connection with this project are available for public viewing at the Planning and Programming Department at the Indiana Department of Transportation LaPorte District office and the LaPorte County Public Library, Coolspring Branch.

The public hearing will be Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. CT at the Michigan City High School Auditorium.
