Each year since his untimely passing family and friends gather at the Washington Township Fire Department to celebrate the life and accomplishments of a remarkably gifted individual, Drew Shearin. Saturday August 2, is the annual Drew’s Gift of Music and Stuff.
Drew was only 17 years old when he lost his life in a car accident. Though he was young, he had mastered a number of instruments, served as drum major of the Knox High School Band, composed his own concert pieces and won two composition awards from the Indiana Music Educator’s Association, not to mention touched the lives of so many people.
In honor of his memory his family started the Drew’s Gift of Music foundation. Part of the mission behind the foundation is providing instruments to aspiring musicians who can’t afford them. An instrument drive will be a part of this year’s event. If you bring an instrument it will pay for your dinner ticket. The foundation also collects money for a scholarship given to young musicians every year.
There will be a variety of other events as well, including a motorcycle ride, a truck ride and hog roast with live entertainment and auctions.
