Starke County Highway Department crews are cleaning up damage from San Pierre to Koontz Lake and south to Bass Lake after strong storms tore through the area late last night and early this morning. Numerous trees are down, and electrical lines are tangled in them.
NIPSCO and Kankakee Valley REMC linemen are also working to restore power to the thousands of customers across their service areas who are still in the dark. Meanwhile, power lines should always be treated as though they are energized. Due to the widespread outages, it’s uncertain when power will be restored. The winds also overturned several pontoon boats and piers at Bass Lake. No injuries were reported as a result of the storms. Damage assessments are continuing throughout the county today.
