The Pulaski County Commissioners heard from Highway Superintendent Mark Fox on how projects are coming along this summer.

Fox explained that crews are done mowing and and grading is now being completed. Road work, including paving, is about two-thirds finished. He’s searching for a new engine for one of the dump trucks as the original motor recently expired.

Bids were opened for a new tractor at the highway department. After opening the bids and reviewing those, Fox presented the commissioners with his recommendation. A bid from GreenMark Equipment was approved for $82,500 even though it was the second highest bid. Fox said the lowest bid had two necessary items missing from the spec sheet. Both bids included the same tractor. The commissioners approved the bid recommendation from Fox.

A clean-up estimate was given from damage sustained from the straight-line winds that whipped through the area on the evening of June 30 into the early morning hours on July 1. With labor and equipment, Fox estimated the costs at $6,227. He said crews began clearing roads of debris at 1 a.m. on July 1.
