The Knox City Council will meet tonight where more discussion will be held concerning two ordinances.
The tall grass ordinance is expected to be passed on third and final reading. At the last council meeting, the council members agreed to change the height from six to eight inches as the benchmark for needing to mow grass or rank vegetation. The other change the council members approved was an additional penalty. The current ordinance has a fine of $25 for any person who violates the ordinance. The members approved an increase to $75 for the violation.
More discussion will be held on the 2015 salary ordinance. The council previously discussed how a three percent salary increase would impact the budget for the general fund. Discussion centered around competitive salaries for workers, the certifications that some workers need that would corroborate an increase in salary, a possible two percent salary increase, and continued budget issues. The second reading of the ordinance passed on a vote of 3 to 2. The council members will have the third and final reading of the ordinance tonight.
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. CT in Knox City Hall.
