A Winamac man faces multiple charges after police say he beat up his girlfriend and wreaked havoc in the emergency room at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a home in the 600 block of 300 West Monday night by neighbors. When they arrived, they found Guy Harlan, 24, covered in blood splatter standing in the yard, waving his arms and screaming at his girlfriend. According to the police report, Harlan beat and strangled her in front of their young children. She and the kids escaped and ran to the neighbor’s house. Harlan followed her and reportedly tried to attack the neighbor when he was asked to leave his property. The neighbor told the deputies he punched Harlan in the face several times. A deputy gave Harlan a portable breath test, and he registered more than three times the presumed level of intoxication. He was arrested for public intoxication and taken to PMH to be checked out. While there, he wiped his bloody nose on the counter at the admittance desk, according to the police report. It also indicates Harlan had violent mood swings while in the ER and had to be isolated in a room with a hinged door so as not to disturb other patients. At one point three officers had to restrain Harlan. He broke a hospital gurney in the ensuing scuffle before eventually being taken to the Pulaski County Jail. He faces domestic battery, strangulation, public intoxication, malicious mischief and disorderly conduct charges.
