This weekend during the North Judson Mint Festival, patrons will have the opportunity to ride the rails at the Hoosier Valley Rail Road Museum. Passengers have their choice of riding in a vintage caboose, an open-air car or a vintage commuter coach. The train will leave the depot for the 10-mile round-trip excursions to English Lake/Kankakee River at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The longer, 20-mile round-trip excursion to LaCrosse, lasts approximately two hours and leaves the depot at 2 p.m.
Groups of six or more receive a $2 per ticket discount. Purchasing tickets online is recommended at www.hoosiervalley.org. In addition to offering train rides, the facility also has one of the largest museum collections of working railroad signals. Be sure to visit the museum and grounds, where the admission is always free. Visitors are welcome to stand next to and touch the C&O 2789 steam locomotive which is the cornerstone of the museum. Stroll around the grounds to see all types of rolling stock and engines from years gone by.
