The Oregon-Davis School Board met Monday night and approved a measure to cinch the belt on the budget.

Superintendent Greg Briles explained that the board members approved a four-day work week for employees during the summer.

“We’re going to look at ways that we can cut some of our cost. We’re going to go to a four day week, Monday through Thursday, June 9 through August 1, for our central office, our custodians, maintenance, and so forth,” said Briles.

Several retirements were also approved during the board meeting and Briles said they will be looking to fill those positions soon.

Those retirees include Instructional Assistant Donna Beauchamp, Food Service Director Sharri Shively and High School Head Cook Marlene Sherland.

The board also approved the purchase of two new Bluebird buses to the fleet.

The year is coming to a close and Superintendent Greg Briles said it’s been a good few months for the corporation under his leadership, the school board’s leadership and the direction given by the building principals.

Briles’ reflection of the school year included all of the support he has received since he came on as the superintendent.

“It’s been a fantastic experience for me being superintendent. The support of the community, the staff – the total support for being a rookie superintendent has been great.”

He noted that all of the students and staff are looking to move forward to the next school year.
