High Speed Crash in Marshall County Sends Two to Hospital

 
 

Speed was allegedly found to be the cause of a two vehicle accident in Marshall County Sunday night.

According to the release issued by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department, 18-year-old Alex Harsted and Grifin P. Masterson, 18, both of Plymouth were traveling at a high rate of speed in the area of Muckshaw Road, north of 13th Road.

An investigation found that Masterson was attempting a pass on Harsted’s vehicle when they collided, sending both vehicles off the roadway.

Masterson’s vehicle went off the east side of the roadway and rolled several times while Harsted’s vehicle went off the west side of the roadway and hit an electric utility pole. Passengers in both vehicles complained of pain and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Officer Les McFarland, who is certified in crash investigations, found that Harsted was reportedly traveling 85 mph five seconds prior to the crash and Masterson was traveling at a speed of 98 mph in the same timeframe.

An accident report along with a criminal case report has been completed and forwarded to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Possible criminal charges could be filed including reckless driving along with exceeding the posted speed limit.
