Allergies Could Worsen This Season

Allergy sufferers are in for a long spring as the “Polar Vortex” has turned into the “Pollen/Allergy Vortex”.

The slow start to spring has delayed the blooming of trees. With the delay, the trees will be blooming at the same time grasses are blooming which will create a dramatic rise in pollen.

Studies have shown that the severity of each year’s allergy season depends on the temperatures, precipitation and amount of flowering grasses in an area in a year.

If you suffer from allergies, experts suggest that you change your clothes when you get home to reduce the amount of pollen brought into your home and to wash your hair before you go to bed to avoid the exchange of pollen on your pillow.

Starke County Health Nurse Frank Lynch said allergy sufferers should consult a doctor if allergy symptoms persist.

“Anyone with newly developed allergies or anything of that nature then they should seek the advice of their family physician or doctor that they choose,” said Lynch. “As far as how to deal with those allergies, there are plenty of over-the-counter remedies. It’s just a matter of trial and error seeing what works best for you.”
