Unemployment Numbers Down in the State

  
 

Unemployment numbers went down in March, according to statistics released by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Over the past year, the state’s unemployment rate declined two percent which is the third largest decrease in the nation.

Starke County’s unemployment rate fell one point to 8.2 percent from February’s rate, while the state’s rate fell .2 percent to 5.9 percent.

LaPorte is second in the state in terms of unemployment. The unemployment rate in LaPorte County is 8.6 percent. Fulton and St. Joseph Counties have a rate of 7.1 percent, Porter County has a rate of 6.9 percent, Marshall County has a rate of 6.5 percent and Pulaski County has the lowest rate of unemployment in the area with 5.6 percent.

All 92 counties in the state reported a decrease in unemployment. Of the local counties, LaPorte had the biggest drop of 1.2 percent. Starke County had a drop of 1.0 percent.
