Pulaski County Health Department Asks for a Generator Again

The onset of storm season has brought an ongoing issue for the Pulaski County Health Department back to the forefront.

Director of Environmental Health Terri Hansen says they desperately need a generator in case of a power failure so their $80,000 worth of refrigerated vaccines don’t spoil. The county recently acquired two 400 kHz military surplus generators, but they are not compatible with the building’s existing infrastructure.

Emergency Management Agency Director Larry Hoover says other sizes are available to government entities through the same military surplus program. He told the commissioners the county first needs to determine how much backup power is needed for the essential functions of the health department and other offices in the county annex building.

Maintenance supervisor Jeff Johnston will complete a needs assessment so the process can move forward. Hansen says she’s been asking the commissioners about getting a generator for the past year.
