The Pulaski County Maintenance Department is working steadily to improve conditions of buildings and equipment throughout the county, and according to Maintenance Director Jeff Johnston, his department has already made a number of improvements this year. Johnston said his department has already installed the four HVAC units on the roof of the justice center and they’re running in good condition. However, some minor work with sensors must still be done over the course of the next few days.

Johnston said the heaters and baler for the recycling center will be ready by Thursday, and he received three quotes on the recycling center’s concrete pad. He said he will receive paper quotes soon and submit them at the next meeting.

On top of that, Johnston said he’s working on getting the courthouse lift fixed. He said the interlock needs retrofitted in order to get it running, and he’s pursuing the modernization of the lifts because they’re a “headache to repair.” The lifts were installed in 1991, and the company that made them has since gone out of business, making it extremely difficult to find parts.

Johnston also said the roof on the justice center has been repaired and should be leak-free for 20 years.
