The new structural addition at the Henry F. Schricker Public Library in Knox has been complete, the grand opening having been held Dec. 7 for the new children’s wing. Sheila Urwiler told WKVI that the hard work has been complete, but there’s still a bit of work to be done with furniture and shelving.

Urwiler said the new areas are now open and they’ve been a perfect addition to the library. She said the library has received a number of compliments, and the kids seem to be enjoying their new space – the adults enjoy it too, she said, thanks to the sound protection provided by the new area.

“The new children’s area has been a wonderful addition. There’s a lot more program space for the children, there’s a noise barrier now so their programs don’t interfere with the enjoyment of the rest of the library. The young adult space is being very well used, especially after school. The new AV area is looking very good; people enjoy being able to browse the DVDs a little more easily,” said Urwiler.

The $1.785 million project added 4000 square feet to the northwest part of the building to allow for a new children’s wing with more controlled access and better sound protection. The added space has also provided more room for computers and set aside a young adult section.

Urwiler said the furniture and shelving work should be completely done within a week or two, as furniture will be seated around the new fireplace and new stations will be put in for the public computers.

“We’re right now adding more shelving to the adult fiction area, and adding new seating – new comfortable seating. We’ve also done some rewiring so people will have more access to outlets to plug in their computers or their phones to charge,” Urwiler explained.
