The clerk-treasurer in the city of Knox has announced they will soon be going to a new billing system that uses full-size paper rather than postcards, saving roughly $540 per year because, according to Clerk-Treasurer Jeff Houston, sending postcards is more expensive. Houston said the new bills will be sent out soon, so don’t be alarmed if your bill from the city is different!

Mayor Rick Chambers mentioned during the city council meeting held last week that the city has signed a contract with Cintas for paper shredding services. Spring leaf pickup will take place April 1–4 and May 5–9, Chambers said, and on every Thursday, electronics that are left by the curbside will be picked up.

Spring cleanup is scheduled for May 9–11, with dumpsters behind city hall. Starke County Environmental Days is set for June 13 and 14.

Chambers said the water department has been interviewing people to fill the replacement position, but have not done so yet; he said they plan to hire a replacement soon and possibly another employee this summer.
