Marshall County Council Approves Transfers

The Marshall County Council members approved nearly $350,000 in transfers for the highway department to cover a grant reimbursement that hasn’t been received and is due.

Highway Superintendent Neal Haeck said the money is for the 7th Road project and the federal reimbursement has not yet come in. He assured the council that the money is coming, it’s just slow in its arrival.

He was expected to take the money up to the Indiana Department of Transportation Monday and file more paperwork to ensure a 35 day turnaround for the funds.

The match money is for the acquisition of the right of way, litigation and damages.

The council members also approved a transfer of $29,600 for a line sergeant at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. In February, Sheriff Tom Chamberlin requested to fill that position in his department and presented a salary ordinance amendment proposal to strike a detective/sergeant position within the department and add a line sergeant position. The hourly rate did not change. A person was hired for this position and the money was approved to be transferred into that line item.
