Drop Boxes Available to Discard Prescription Medications

It was recently reported that one of the biggest issues in Starke County is prescription drug abuse. A program sponsored by Moving Starke County Forward will be held in the next couple of months that will give information to community members on how to combat this pressing issue.

If you have unwanted, unused or expired prescription medication, you may take that medication to drop off locations at the Knox City Police Department and at the Starke County Sheriff’s Department.

Secured boxes are at the police facilities for your convenience. You may drop off those prescription medications with no questions asked. This gives you an opportunity to safely discard any medications that could otherwise get into the hands of the wrong person.

A drop box is located in the lobby of the Knox City Police Department. The building is located across the street from Knox City Hall on 120 N. Shield St. You may easily drop off your medication that is enclosed in a plastic bag. The box is secured and is monitored by a security camera.

You may also utilize the drop box at the Starke County Sheriff’s Department at its current location at 108 N. Pearl St. in Knox. Those living in North Judson may drop off prescriptions by appointment at the North Judson Police Department.
