Marshall County Voting Districts May Consolidate Further

The push to consolidate districts in Marshall County is still a matter of discussion, as the Marshall County Election Board will soon make a decision regarding the possible consolidation of Center Township districts 1 and 2, and districts 3 and 4. However, Donna Pontius, voter registration deputy clerk for Marshall County, said nothing has been decided definitively.

Pontius explained Center Township districts 5 and 6 were consolidating for the 2012 election, as well as districts 7 and 8, and the election board is now considering the possibility of consolidating the other districts, but the election board has not yet made contact with potential voting sites to see if they would be willing to take it on.

Currently, Center Township District 1 votes at the Marshall County Building, while Center 2 votes at the Plymouth Fire Station. Center 3 votes at the Webster Recreation Center, and Center 4 votes at the Knights of Columbus. Combined districts Center 5 and 6 vote at Plymouth Baptist Church, and Center 7 and 8 vote at the REMC building.

Pontius said the next step in the possible consolidation is to talk to the potential voting sites to see if they could accommodate the influx of voters – something that she said could be done within the next week.

The next election board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 13 at 8:30 a.m., when the matter is likely to be discussed.
