After Starke Circuit Court Judge Kim Hall rejected several plea agreements on Jan. 29, those defendants were in court on Friday to appear for status hearings in their respective cases.

One of those defendants was Hanley Warren Chapman. The last time this case was discussed in court, Judge Hall stated that he had questions concerning the factual basis regarding a charge of Resisting Law Enforcement. He also inquired about a mental health evaluation as Chapman told the judge that an evaluation was done but wasn’t included in the plea agreement. Chapman told Judge Hall that he is seeking help for his alcohol abuse and is taking medication to stabilize his issues.

In August, Chapman allegedly fired three gunshots into his living room floor with his brother-in-law present. The SWAT team later entered the house and found him highly intoxicated in a basement room. He was arrested and charged with Criminal Recklessness and Resisting Law Enforcement.

The plea agreement has been amended and a hearing to proceed is set for Feb. 24 at 9 a.m.

Jeremy Hansen and his defense attorney were present Friday along with the State to determine the status of his plea agreement. A previous agreement included a prison sentence on the charges of Resisting Law Enforcement and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction. A plea and sentencing hearing will now be held on Feb. 24 at 9 a.m.

Danny Clark, who is accused of burglarizing the Hamlet Feed Mill and Hamlet Golf Course, will appear in Starke Circuit Court for a plea and sentencing hearing on Feb. 24 at 9 a.m. His plea agreement has also been amended. Previously, Judge Hall stated that restitution needs to be addressed as well as the length of prison sentence before he would accept an agreement between the defendant and the State.
