Workers’ Compensation Benefits Raised, But That Doesn’t Help Knox Fireman

A volunteer fireman for the city of Knox who was injured on the job is still out of luck regarding his workers’ compensation. Wayne Noah was injured while investigating a fire when a change in pressure forced him off of the house floor and onto the ground, twisting an ankle and preventing him from working his full-time job. The fireman is employed at a factory and was unable to work due to his injury.

The city council recently approved a motion to pursue increasing their workers’ compensation benefits from $300 a week to $1000, but the problem is, this change won’t affect the benefits for Noah. On top of that, city attorney Dave Matsey told the council that they can’t just write the fireman a check for the difference unless there’s a threat of litigation.

Matsey said they must first learn whether or not Noah plans to pursue those benefits before they can decide how to proceed.
