Number of Meth Labs Seized Continues to Rise

The Indiana State Police has released the state-wide law enforcement clandestine lab seizure incidents reported for 2013. The number of labs keeps growing and the one-pot method of manufacturing the drug continues to be the number one type of lab found.

A total of 1,721 lab incidents were reported last year which is a 3.48 percent increase from 2012. The most lab incidents were recorded in April with 207. Police arrested 1,507 people in meth lab incidents last year.

Twenty-one meth labs were seized by the Indiana State Police in Starke County and six in Pulaski County. LaPorte County had six labs as well. Thirty-three labs were seized in Marshall County. Vanderburgh County reported the highest amount of labs seized while Porter County reported zero labs. Again, these are Indiana State Police statistics.

Eight Indiana State Police personnel were initially certified to begin processing meth lab crime scenes in 1991. With the progression of the popularity of the drug and its manufacturing process, the Methamphetamine Suppression Section now has 19 sworn personnel who have the full-time responsibility to investigate, educate, and partner with other law enforcement agencies to assist all counties in combating this epidemic.
