Local Candidates File for Office

Wednesday was the first day that candidates could file for office in a county clerk’s office.

In Pulaski County, three candidates filed their intentions to run in the 2014 May Primary Election. They include Tasha L. (Crist) Foerg (R) for clerk, Jeffery K. Richwine (R) for sheriff, and Lorena H. “Holly” VanDerAa (R) for assessor.

In Starke County, Nancy Dembowski (D) filed for the office of county commissioner for district 2. She is a long-time resident of the district and has previously served as a member of the Starke County Council, mayor of Knox, Indiana state representative in district 17 and state senator in district 5. She retired from her position as state representative at the close of 2012. Dembowski believes that crucial issues facing Starke County “have solutions and that government can function to the people’s benefit.” Dembowski is seeking the seat currently held by fellow Democrat Jennifer Davis, who is running for a county council seat. Davis filed the necessary qualifying paperwork yesterday for that position.

Other candidates to file in Starke County on Wednesday include: Vicki Cooley for clerk, Thomas Decola for Railroad Township trustee, William Bope for sheriff, Rutherford Byron Walters for North Bend Township trustee, and Gregory Wireman for sheriff.
