It’s a story Owen Trusty can proudly tell when he gets older. Tawny Trusty, Owen’s mother, was set to be induced on Monday at a hospital in Lafayette, but the road conditions were not cooperating Sunday or Monday. Tawny told WKVI that she and her husband, Kevin, made every attempt to get to the hospital and even attempted to reschedule at one point.

“My husband said, ‘I don’t think we’re going to go,’” stated Trusty. “He had messaged INDOT and they had told him how the road conditions were. So, then we tried to schedule and then a neighbor called and said they were going down to Lafayette if we wanted to follow them and travel together. Last minute, as my husband was trying to dig a three-foot snow drift from out behind the car, we ended up going down to the hospital and having our baby at two o’clock in the morning.”

Owen came into the world early Tuesday morning. Mom and baby are doing well.

INDOT featured the story on their Facebook page and commended Kevin for checking on road conditions before heading out. Officials stated that he went slowly and planned ahead.

It was a wild, long ride to Lafayette for the Trustys. The proud father told of his adventure on Facebook and ended his thought with, “If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
