The Indiana Court of Appeals affirmed a 20 year prison sentence for Anthony Eugene Fields.

A Marshall County jury found Fields guilty of several methamphetamine-related charges and Judge Robert O. Bowen sentenced Fields to the maximum sentence allowed under the law. A 20-year sentence was handed down on the charge of Manufacturing Methamphetamine while the sentences for several Class D felonies ran concurrently to the manufacturing methamphetamine charge.

Fields appealed his sentence where his appellate counsel questioned whether Judge Bowen erred for denying trial attorney Edward Ruiz’s motion to exclude a lab report and a motion to continue the trial. The attorney also questioned whether Fields was denied his right to the effective assistance of trial counsel. The Court of Appeals was also asked to revise Fields’ 20 year prison sentence claiming it was inappropriate in light of the nature of the offenses and his character.

The Indiana Court of Appeals found “no error” and declined Fields’ “invitation to revise his sentence”. The judgment of the trial court was affirmed.
