Relay for Life Team Holding Fundraiser Today

A Relay for Life team is holding a fundraiser today at the Starke County Public Library, and according to team captain Laura Hardin, there are a ton of events planned to keep kids and parents entertained. Hardin said the fundraiser is sponsored by the Relay for Life team “Crazy for a Cure,” and it features opportunities like pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a chance to meet their special elf, an English Mastiff. The fundraiser runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hardin said they will also offer an opportunity for the family pet to have a special spot in the photo as well.

“From 1 to 2 p.m. we will be doing pictures with pets so you’re more than welcome to bring in your pet snake, your pet goldfish, cat, dog, whatever your special pet may be. Santa’s all welcome to it,” said Hardin.

The fundraiser also features a cookie walk with boxes for purchase in sizes small, medium and large, with a bonus: anyone who purchases a large box will be entered into a drawing for two $25 gift cards. Children will also have the opportunity to decorate their own cookies, write letters to Santa, and make their marks on some coloring pages.

The fundraiser also benefits a very special cause, Hardin said. Korie Howard will visit the library to meet with visitors and a portion of the funds raised will go to benefit her cancer treatment.

“Korie has bone cancer. She’s going through radiation right now; I’ve been told by her mom she has a series of 10 radiation treatments. I believe today is day two. We’re trying to find some way to boost her spirits, bring in presents for her and the family if we can, donate some money for them,” Hardin said.
