Ancilla College has been awarded a $1 million Lilly Endowment grant. The college received one of 39 such grants provided by the Endowment to the state’s accredited colleges and universities as part of its Initiative to Expand Opportunities Through Educational Collaborations. The grants, totaling $62.7 million, will provide a significant boost to the schools’ efforts to enhance and expand opportunities for college graduates to find meaningful employment in Indiana.

Ron May, president of the college, said they are very pleased to have the grant and will put it to good use.

“We’re very pleased to get that grant. It’s a grant that will be spent over three years and it enables us to do some amazing things in our programs at our college and serving not only our college students but also working with area high schools and others to ease the transition of students from high school to college and give them some opportunities to get some specific training opportunities while they’re still in high school and earn college credit for that,” said May.

May said the grant will also allow them to develop a regional healthcare training center, adding certificate programs to their nursing and similar programs.

This will include pathways for high school students that decrease the time it takes them to complete degrees, internships that enhance skill development and lead to paid positions, and seamless transitions for students who transfer to senior institutions.

“We’re excited about all the opportunities that that grant provides us and we look forward to implementing it and working with the high school systems in Knox and in Starke County and in Marshall County as well. It’s an exciting thing to have,” said May.
