Marshall County Commissioners Approve Property Purchase

The Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning approved the purchase of the Anthony Ross property in the amount of $87,248.

The Ross property sits alongside the river and the commissioners are buying the property in order to control riverbank erosion as part of the Yellow River Bank Stabilization Project.

A portion of the land on which Ross’ home sits has fallen into the river causing instability of the structure on the property. The Kankakee Valley River Basin Commission has secured funds to purchase the property and rehabilitate the area. The property at 500 E. LaPorte St. would then be donated back to the city.

The commissioners approved the purchase for $87,248 which includes the cost of the appraised property plus closing costs. The paperwork will now be directed to the Kankakee Valley River Basin to be discussed during their next meeting.
