Man Wanted in Marshall County Arrested in LaPorte

A man who was wanted by Marshall County police was arrested in LaPorte as the result of an investigation into a report of a domestic disturbance. According to the report, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 4:52 p.m. police responded to a home in the 400 block of Brighton Street to investigate the complaint.

The victim told police her ex-husband, John Sofranko, 36 of La Porte, was living with her and the two had been arguing. The victim said she attempted to leave the residence, but Sofranko physically held the door shut so she could not exit. She said he then grabbed a kitchen knife, held it to her face and threatened her if she called police.

She said Sofranko threatened to take her television before he grabbed her television remote and threw it outside in the snow. Fortunately, the victim said she was able to exit the home, get inside her vehicle and call her son who responded to pick her up until police arrived.

Sofranko, who was still on scene, denied the allegations. Police did locate the damaged TV remote laying outside in the snow.

Sofranko was taken into custody and is charged with criminal confinement and intimidation, both Class D felonies. He was also found to be wanted on warrant out of Marshall County for failing to appear on a driving while suspended arrest.
