Beer Burglar Sought by LaPorte Police

A desperate man in need of liquid motivation reportedly stole a case of beer from the LaPorte Pantry after his SNAP card was denied for the purchase – not surprising, since SNAP benefits are not eligible to be used to purchase alcohol. According to the report, on Thursday, Nov. 14, at approximately 4:03 p.m., police responded to the store for the theft that had just occurred.

The employee told police the suspect came to the check-out counter with a case of Budweiser beer and attempted to pay for it with a SNAP card. When the clerk attempted to run the purchase thru the account, the sale was rejected. The clerk handed the suspect back the card and the suspect grabbed the beer and left the store with it. He was last seen running south on Tipton and Rose streets with the case of beer in tow.

The suspect is described as a white male approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium build. He is said to be in his mid-20’s to 30’s with reddish brown short hair and a mustache, wearing black ball cap, dark coat, dark pants and brown boots.
