Two Arrested After Search Warrant Executed

Two people were arrested in Winamac on Sunday as Pulaski County deputies were executing an arrest warrant.

Police arrived at a fifth-wheel camper on 250 North and saw children playing outside but no adults. Officers attempted to get someone to answer the door, but no one came to the door. The officers thought it would be in the best interest to see if anyone was in the camper so they announced their presence and entered the camper.

Once inside, the officers noticed the smell of burnt marijuana and 47-year-old Sharon Button rose from the couch. Button told officers that she was sleeping and had not heard them knocking on the door. She was asked if she was the only person in the dwelling and she said she was. A child had previously told officers that their father, Michael Campbell, 30, was inside and the officers asked that anyone else in the trailer show themselves. Campbell opened a door and presented himself. He also had a warrant for his arrest and both Campbell and Button were taken into custody.

Police applied for a search warrant which was granted. Officers reportedly found drug paraphernalia and marijuana inside the camper. Additional charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Visiting a Common Nuisance were submitted, but the case will be under review by the Pulaski County Prosecutor to determine formal charges.
