The town of Winamac will see some relief in their transfer station rates, after a county commissioner approached the town board at their meeting to discuss transfer station fees and other matters. According to Town Manager Jim Conner, the commissioner negotiated a new rate with the board, which came out a bit cheaper than it had been in the past. Conner said this new rate will help with their garbage collection expense and other expenses.
Conner said the town had previously paid $60 per ton, but now that rate has been negotiated down to $40 per ton. With the town collecting roughly 600 tons per year, the costs could be significant, averaging $12,000 a year for the town.
Conner said the price reduction discussion began when he had asked the commissioners if they could give the town a lowered price as the town is one of their larger customers, and this reduction is a result of that.
