A three-car accident injured two on U.S. Highway 421, north of County Road 2300 South near LaCrosse Friday afternoon.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. CT and found that a vehicle traveling south on U.S. 421 crossed the center line of the roadway for unknown reasons and hit the axles of a trailer being pulled by a northbound semi. After the vehicle struck the axles, the vehicle hit another car that was traveling north on U.S. 421.
The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. A juvenile passenger in the northbound car and the driver of the semi were transported to a Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso for treatment.
The accident forced police to close the highway for an extended amount of time to tend to the injured and to reconstruct the scene. Police continue to investigate this crash and the results of toxicology tests are pending on the driver who crossed the center line. No names have been released at this time.
