Starke County Emergency Food and Shelter Board to Distribute Funds

Starke County has chosen to receive $11,262 in federal funds made available through the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board for Phase 31.

The national board is made of representatives from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, the Jewish Federations of North America, Catholic Charities USA, National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, and United Way Worldwide.

The local Starke County Emergency Food and Shelter board, who has these same representatives, will determine how the funds awarded to Starke County are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. Local agencies to receive these funds must be eligible to receive federal funds and also comply with other requirements.

Applications must be received by Nov. 5 and interested organizations should contact Joan Haugh at Community Services of Starke County at (574) 772-7070 for an application.

The Starke County Emergency Food and Shelter board will convene on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 9 a.m. at Community Services of Starke County in Knox.
